Trans activists inject hormones outside NYU after hospital cuts deal with Trump DOJ

Transgender activists turned a protest outside one of New York City’s biggest hospitals into a viral spectacle Tuesday, publicly injecting themselves with hormone replacement therapy after NYU Langone struck a deal with the Trump administration.

Video from outside the hospital shows protesters preparing syringes and administering HRT while a crowd carrying signs including “Protect Trans Kids” watched.

“We’re taking our HRT here at the doors of the people who have given up to demystify, normalize, and celebrate our trans bodies in the face of NYU’s cowardice,” one demonstrator announced, according to video of the protest.

The demonstration followed a settlement announced Friday between NYU Langone and the Justice Department.

Under the agreement, NYU will stop providing gender-transition medical and surgical treatment to patients under 19, including puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones and surgical procedures. NYU also agreed to pay $8.5 million.

The Justice Department said its investigation examined potential violations of federal health care laws, including allegations involving billing practices. The government said the settlement does not amount to a determination of liability, and NYU expressly denied wrongdoing.

NYU said the deal also resolves the federal investigation and removes the threat that the hospital would have to provide confidential information previously demanded about patients under 18 who received gender-related treatment.

The hospital said its pediatric mental-health programs and care for patients 18 and older will continue.

The protesters aren’t buying NYU’s explanation.

Dozens gathered outside Tisch Hospital, accusing the medical system of abandoning transgender minors under pressure from Washington. The protest came as other major hospital systems have also reached agreements with the Trump administration involving pediatric gender-transition care.
