BS BULLETIN:
- Fox News host Brian Kilmeade says he thinks President Trump is making a mistake by pulling the remaining U.S. forces out of Iraq now.
- Kilmeade said he understands Trump is following a withdrawal schedule negotiated earlier, but argued the timing sends “the wrong message.”
- Trump, meanwhile, celebrated the end of the 12-year U.S. mission as an escape from a longstanding “quagmire.”
Fox News host Brian Kilmeade isn’t cheering President Donald Trump’s decision to bring the remaining American troops home from Iraq.
In fact, he’s “a little upset.”
Kilmeade criticized the withdrawal on his radio show while discussing the continuing confrontation with Iran and the presence of Iran-backed militias inside Iraq.
“I’m a little upset. We’re pulling out of Iraq again.”
Kilmeade acknowledged that the withdrawal timeline originated under the Biden administration and that maintaining troops overseas costs money. But he argued this is the wrong moment to leave.
“I know it was Joe Biden’s schedule. I understand it. I know it costs money, but this is the wrong message,” he said.
His concern centers on Iran-backed Shiite militias that remain armed inside Iraq.
“When the Iran thing is settled, that’s when you make your decision. But now the militias are still armed,” he contended.
Kilmeade questioned whether the Iraqi government is capable of disarming those groups without an American military presence.
The criticism comes as the United States completed its withdrawal from Iraq, ending a military mission focused largely on combating ISIS that lasted roughly 12 years.
Trump celebrated the move Wednesday, saying, “It’s been a long time with very bad decision making that got us involved in this quagmire in the first place.”
Trump said the United States “probably shouldn’t” have invaded Iraq and described ending the mission as a victory.
“We’re getting the hell out of there,” he said.
The withdrawal comes at an unusually tense moment in the region, with the United States still confronting Iran and questions remaining about the strength of Iranian-backed militias throughout Iraq. Former Defense Secretary Leon Panetta raised a similar concern this week, arguing that removing American forces now could strengthen Iran’s position inside Iraq.
Kilmeade’s objection, however, is notable because it comes from one of Fox News’ most prominent hosts — and from someone generally supportive of Trump’s broader approach toward Iran.
He likes the pressure Trump is putting on Tehran. He just thinks this particular move comes too soon.
