MTG rushes to Ilhan Omar’s defense and gets a brutally stinging send off

THE DAILY BS: HOW MUCH CAN YOU HANDLE?

SPARE ME THE BS (I’ve got things to do).

  • Former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene blasts the Trump White House over reported efforts to investigate and potentially deport Ilhan Omar.
  • Conservative commentator Monica Matthews responds with a scathing X post, calling Greene an embarrassment and telling her to go away.
  • Other X users pile on, reviving Greene’s past opposition to Omar and questioning her remarkable political reversal.

LAY IT ON ME (I’ve got time).

Well, here’s a political pairing that wasn’t on anybody’s bingo card: Marjorie Taylor Greene riding to the defense of Ilhan Omar.

And judging by the reaction on X, some of Greene’s former supporters would like to know exactly when that became a thing.

The former Georgia congresswoman unleashed a profanity-laced attack on the Trump White House after reports that federal officials are investigating whether Omar or her late father provided misleading information during the family’s immigration process decades ago.

The Wall Street Journal reported that the administration is examining a possible path toward denaturalizing and deporting the Minnesota Democrat. No final determination of immigration fraud has been established publicly.

Greene, who has spent years clashing with Omar over abortion, gun rights and other issues, apparently decided the administration had better things to worry about.

“Me and Ilhan Omar are far apart policy wise,” Greene wrote. “I’m pro life, she’s pro abortion. I’m pro 2A, she’s pro gun control.”

Then came the question that set off the fireworks.

“But can someone tell me how pretending to get ready to deport Ilhan Omar is going to bring gas down under $2,” Greene asked, before listing health insurance costs, grocery bills and foreign wars among her complaints.

“People are so sick and tired of the bulls**t,” she added.

Greene went further, demanding the release of the Epstein files, insulting White House officials and ending her message with a middle-finger emoji.

Subtlety, apparently, was unavailable for comment.

But the real fireworks came from conservative commentator Monica Matthews, who delivered a lengthy public rebuke that was considerably more personal than the usual political disagreement.

“Marjorie, I’ve held my peace where you are concerned, but here goes,” Matthews began, calling Greene “one of the single most despicable humans I’ve encountered in my 30 years in politics.”

Matthews accused Greene of pursuing a “scorched earth approach” and argued that her behavior was indefensible given the opportunities she had received from Trump and the House Freedom Caucus.

“I won’t speculate on who or what absconded with your soul, but you should take some time off and recalibrate,” Matthews wrote.

That was only the warm-up.

“You’re an embarrassment to those of us who supported your efforts and had high hopes you were who you purported to be. You’re not that woman.”

Matthews concluded with a message that left little room for reconciliation: “Do the country a favor and go away and enjoy your life.”

Ouch. No Hallmark card required.

And Matthews wasn’t the only one questioning Greene’s latest political turn.

An X user posting as TONY responded, “This you?” alongside a link apparently intended to remind Greene of her earlier positions.

Retired Air Force officer Buzz Patterson was even more direct.

“Dude. Really? You’ve lost your mind,” Patterson wrote, before accusing Greene of defending a terrorist and declaring, “You’re done. Next!”

Another commenter, using the handle captive dreamer, offered a particularly pointed comparison: “Indistinguishable from Bernie sanders.”

For longtime followers of Greene’s political career, the spectacle is striking.

In 2024, Greene moved to censure Omar over controversial remarks concerning Somalia and the United States. Now she’s publicly attacking the Trump administration over the prospect of removing the same congresswoman from the country.

Greene’s stated argument is that Washington should focus on Americans’ economic problems rather than what she characterizes as a political distraction. Her critics, meanwhile, see another chapter in her increasingly bitter break with the president she once championed.

On X, the debate quickly became a public reckoning between Greene and people who once considered themselves her allies.

Monica Matthews may have delivered the line that best captured their frustration: “You’re not that woman.”

Washington certainly knows how to produce strange alliances. This one comes with a middle finger and a farewell speech.
