THE DAILY BS: HOW MUCH CAN YOU HANDLE?

SPARE ME THE BS (I’ve got things to do).
- Chief Judge James Boasberg, whom Trump demanded be impeached during the deportation-flight showdown, is overseeing efforts to unseal records from the search of Ilhan Omar’s home.
- U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro argues the warrant has not been fully executed and that disclosure could jeopardize the investigation.
- Judicial Watch and major news organizations want the records released. Omar denies immigration wrongdoing and separately demands the return of seized property.
LAY IT ON ME (I’ve got time).
The fight over the search of Rep. Ilhan Omar’s home has brought another familiar name into the picture: James Boasberg.
The same federal judge President Donald Trump wanted impeached during their confrontation over deportation flights is overseeing efforts to make the Omar warrant records public. U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro wants them kept sealed while investigators finish their work.
Washington’s cast of recurring courtroom characters apparently has excellent job security.
In a filing this week, Pirro argued that the request for disclosure was premature because the warrant had not been fully executed.
“This request sounds rash because it is rash,” she wrote.
The government says releasing investigative details now could expose sources, identify subjects and create opportunities for evidence destruction or other obstruction. Prosecutors have indicated that they may support releasing some records later.
The warrant remains sealed. No criminal charges against Omar have been announced.
Boasberg’s role is documented in the court docket for Judicial Watch’s October 15 application. He is overseeing the disclosure fight; U.S. Magistrate Judge Matthew Sharbaugh authorized the original search.
Federal agents searched Omar’s Washington residence October 12. The investigation concerns possible false information in her family’s immigration paperwork, including questions about her age when she obtained citizenship through her father’s application.
Omar denies wrongdoing and describes the investigation as political intimidation.
The demand to open the records comes from an unusual collection of interested parties. Conservative watchdog Judicial Watch wants access, as do major news organizations seeking information about the basis and scope of the search.
Judicial Watch requested the warrant, application, supporting affidavits, inventory and related court materials.
Its president, Tom Fitton, said the public has a right to know what potential crimes prompted the search of a sitting congresswoman’s home.
For once, Judicial Watch and newsrooms that rarely share its political instincts are knocking on the same courthouse door.
Boasberg brings substantial history with the administration. In March 2025, he ordered a halt to removals of alleged Venezuelan gang members under the Alien Enemies Act. Trump responded by demanding his impeachment, prompting Chief Justice John Roberts to defend the appellate process as the proper response to disagreement with a ruling.
Omar’s lawyers are pursuing a separate dispute over the search itself. They say agents violated restrictions protecting her congressional work and have demanded seized property back. The Justice Department says agents complied with court orders and rejects the lawyers’ account.
The immediate fight is over when the public gets to see the paperwork. Pirro says disclosure would interfere with unfinished investigative work. The applicants want the government’s justification for an extraordinary search opened to scrutiny.
