New audio in Kari Lake bribe story sparks demands for resignation

by

Arizona Senate candidate Kari Lake is among others calling for the resignation of the state’s Republican Party chair after audio surfaced of an apparent bribe to keep her from running.

Shocking audio was published by the Daily Mail that purportedly captured Arizona GOP chair Jeff DeWit speaking to Lake at her home last year and seeming to say that “very powerful people” would pay her to sit out a Senate bid for two years. On Tuesday, from former President Donald Trump’s campaign party in Nashua, New Hampshire, Lake demanded DeWit’s resignation.

“The people are rising up and saying, no, we want our country back,” she told Daily Mail. “We want our government back and we will no longer put up with one more ounce of corruption. And the truth is all coming out now.”

When the former gubernatorial candidate was asked if the state party chair should now resign, she replied, “I believe he should.”

Dewit purportedly spoke with Lake about her political aspirations last year, according to the Daily Mail.

“There are very powerful people who want to keep you out,” the man identified by the outlet as DeWit can be heard in the audio recording telling Lake.

“So the ask I got today from back east was: ‘Is there any companies out there or something that could just put her on the payroll to keep her out?'” he said after asking her not to mention the conversation to anyone.

“Just say, is there a number at which,” DeWit said before she interjected.

“I can be bought? That’s what it’s about,” Lake reportedly responded.

“You can take a pause for a couple of years,” DeWit suggested. “You can go right back to what you’re doing.”

Lake had discussed the effort to keep from running previously but had never revealed any names.

In New Hampshire on Tuesday, the avid Trump supporter said DeWit has “gotta resign.”

“He’s gotta resign. We can’t have somebody who is corrupt and compromised running the Republican Party,” she told an NBC reporter.

“If this is, in fact, true, I’m asking AZGOP Chairman Jeff DeWit to resign,” the chair of the Maricopa County GOP, Craig Berland, said in a statement.

  1. Mr. Dimwitt needs to say adios! Our government is completely corrupted! We need to send these bums packing.
I have one question… why did it take this long for this to surface? Did Lake not remember this?
