Joe Rogan wakes up to ‘childless liberal women’: ‘The world is out of its f—ing mind’

Joe Rogan thinks he’s spotted something bigger than the controversy surrounding the Lindsay Clancy murder trial.

A political type.

During Tuesday’s episode of “The Joe Rogan Experience,” the podcaster was discussing the remarkable public support that has developed around Clancy, the Massachusetts mother on trial for killing her three young children.

But the conversation eventually broadened into Rogan’s theory about what he sees as a growing radicalization among Americans — particularly liberal women without children.

“I don’t want to generalize, but it seems like it’s Republicans too, but it’s a lot of liberal women,” Rogan said.

Then came his theory.

“Liberal women with no children want to turn the world into their children,” Rogan said. “They want to, like, scold the world like they’re doing the wrong thing.”

Rogan rattled off the causes he believes occupy that role.

“They’re worried about the environment,” he said, along with “the future,” voting, rights and immigrants.

“They’re taking care of the world like it’s the child that they don’t have,” Rogan concluded.

The comments came during a broader discussion about Clancy and the unusually passionate following her trial has attracted.

Clancy, a 36-year-old former labor-and-delivery nurse, does not dispute that she strangled her three children — Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months — inside the family’s Duxbury, Massachusetts, home in January 2023.

Her defense argues she was experiencing postpartum psychosis and therefore was not criminally responsible.

Prosecutors contend that Clancy was mentally ill but nevertheless understood what she was doing and deliberately planned the killings.

The trial has become a national spectacle.

Hundreds of supporters, many dressed in pink, have gathered outside the courthouse carrying messages including “Believe,” “She Needed Help” and “Peace For Lindsay.”

Many say they identify with Clancy’s struggles and believe her case illustrates failures in the treatment of postpartum mental illness.

Clancy’s attorney, Kevin Reddington, said the volume of supportive correspondence sent to his client now fills three banker’s boxes.

The enthusiasm has even extended to Reddington, who has become something of a social-media celebrity himself, inspiring thousands of TikTok videos and nicknames including “Big Redd” and “Shreddington.”

Rogan wasn’t buying the movement surrounding Clancy.

He questioned whether crowds would rally in the same fashion if the defendant were a father accused of killing his three children.

“The world is out of its f—ing mind,” Rogan said.

He acknowledged the seriousness of mental illness but argued that the act at the center of the case shouldn’t disappear beneath the sympathy surrounding the defendant.

“The ability to kill your children is crazy,” Rogan said.

The Clancy case itself remains unresolved.

Jurors told the judge twice that they were deadlocked, but deliberations were expected to continue Thursday as the panel attempts to reach a unanimous verdict.

The jury can convict Clancy of first-degree murder, second-degree murder or manslaughter; acquit her; or find her not criminally responsible because of mental illness.

Whatever the jury decides, Rogan has already reached his own conclusion about the cultural phenomenon surrounding the case.

To him, it’s about considerably more than one murder trial.

MY QUICK TAKE

Forget the Clancy argument for a moment. Rogan’s “parenting the world” line is the part likely to ignite the internet.

It’s an unusually specific theory for why some people become intensely invested in politics and social causes: maternal instinct without children gets redirected toward society itself.

Plenty of liberal women without children are going to have something to say about that.

Which, given Rogan’s theory, may prove his point to Rogan.
