The Operation Arctic Frost probe of the Donald J. Trump orbit has turned out to be something far more disturbing than we even imagined.
According to documents released by senators like Chuck Grassley and Ron Johnson, the FBI under the Joe Biden administration secretly launched Arctic Frost in April 2022, allegedly to pursue the Trump campaign and its conservative allies.
Internal records show the FBI acquired the government-issued cell phones of Trump and former Vice President Mike Pence, conducted dozens of interviews across multiple states, and issued hundreds of subpoenas—all under the code name “Arctic Frost.”
What’s worse: the agency reportedly monitored the phone metadata of eight sitting Republican senators and one House member—without their knowledge.
This is obvious and blatant lawfare—an abuse of law and process for political ends. In the unfolding drama, the spotlight now turns on a small group of powerful figures:
-
Merrick Garland (former Attorney General)
-
Christopher Wray (former FBI Director)
-
Jack Smith (former Special Counsel)
-
James Boasberg (U.S. District Judge)
Senators say Garland, Wray and Smith personally signed off on Arctic Frost. And Judge Boasberg allegedly approved subpoenas that allowed private phone-metadata tracking of sitting Congressmen, while forbidding carriers from notifying them of the surveillance.
Former State Department official and conservative voice Mike Benz has publicly called for the arrest of Boasberg and Smith for “spying on Congress and hiding the spying from Congress.” He wrote on X:
“On Monday morning, arrest Judge Boasberg for spying on Congress and hiding the spying from Congress, and arrest Jack Smith as his co-conspirator.” He added:“All these charges were brought against Trump-world figures under the Biden DOJ. Their were bullsh*t. This is actually real.”
The list of suggested charges he posted includes Deprivation of Rights Under Color of Law, Obstruction of a Proceeding Before Congress, and Conspiracy Against Rights.
Here’s a breakdown of what has been uncovered so far:
The investigation called “Arctic Frost” was formally approved April 13 2022. Emails show that former FBI Assistant Special Agent in Charge Timothy Thibault authored the opening document of Arctic Frost—violating internal FBI rules (specifically the “No Self-Approval” rule).
The FBI obtained government cell phones for Trump, Pence, and others, and used them in support of the special-counsel probe against Trump.
Toll-analysis data (metadata on calls: who called whom, when, duration, location) was collected from eight U.S. senators and one House member during the early January 2021 timeframe. Orders were signed by Judge Boasberg (approved by the FBI/DOJ) which prohibited telecom carriers from notifying targeted lawmakers—based on claimed “reasonable grounds” they might tamper with evidence or intimidate witnesses.
This constitutes a clear violation of federal law. As Sean Davis pointed out:
“It is a violation of federal law (2 U.S.C. 6628) to prevent data carriers from informing the Senate of the collection of its data.”
Mike Benz’s call is blunt: “This is actually real.” If that’s the case, then demands for accountability must be real too. Arresting Boasberg and Smith—or at least impeaching and prosecuting them—might sound extreme. But if the charges are credible, then justice demands it.
Might I add making false statements?
In both the AT&T NDO (moot) and Verizon NDO (enforced), Boasberg claimed sitting members of the Senate and House would destroy/ tamper with evidence and/or intimidate witnesses if notice of subpoenas was given.
Absolutely no basis to those… pic.twitter.com/Z5j7iuOi9a
