When Georgia lawmakers finally put Fulton County DA Fani Willis under oath about her office’s spending in the Trump prosecution, the results were telling—and troubling.
Again and again, Willis made one thing clear: she doesn’t know, she doesn’t review, and she won’t answer.
Asked about billing documents related to the highly controversial Trump prosecution, Willis flatly stated:
“I don’t review those documents… I can’t talk to you about documents I don’t approve and don’t review.”
Let that sink in. The elected district attorney overseeing the most politically charged prosecution in the country claims she has no firsthand knowledge of invoices submitted by a special prosecutor she personally hired.
160 Hours a Week? Seriously?
Willis attempted to justify the massive payments by portraying special prosecutor Nathan Wade as a tireless workhorse: “I only allowed Mr. Wade to bill 160 hours a week.”
That’s four full-time jobs, every week!
Instead of explaining how that number was verified—or who verified it at all—Willis pivoted to praise. Wade, she said, arrived before everyone else, left after everyone else, and “taught” staff that showing up at 8:30 actually means 7:45.
That’s not financial oversight. That’s mythology.
Who Approves the Bills? Don’t Ask Her
When lawmakers pressed the obvious follow-up—who actually reviews and approves invoices in your office?—Willis grew defensive.
“You want me to testify about something I don’t have any first-hand knowledge of?”
In other words, the DA says she doesn’t know who approves the bills, how they’re approved, or what’s in them—but expects taxpayers to trust the process anyway.
“You want something to investigate as a legislature? Investigate how many times they’ve called me the N-word.”
Raising concerns about financial accountability is not racism. It’s literally the legislature’s job.
Fani’s freaking out! 🤣 The Georgia Senate is grilling Fani Willis about the money she spent on her bogus Trump charges and she’s having a meltdown. pic.twitter.com/P4nWG2DJlw

This is not how responsible governance works. Rather than answer budgetary questions, Willis lashed out, accusing legislators of political grandstanding and suggesting they should investigate unrelated issues instead.
And, she never answered who approves the invoices.
