Philadelphia’s top prosecutor just delivered a head-spinning performance that had everything: threats, accusations, a quick thank-you—and then right back to threats again.
District Attorney Larry Krasner opened with a chest-thumping declaration of power, laying down the law as he sees it: “This is how it works. You commit crimes within the jurisdiction that is the city and county of Philadelphia. I prosecute you.”
Fair enough—until he zeroed in on federal immigration agents, making it crystal clear that, in his world, even Uncle Sam’s badge won’t save you. “No, I don’t take a phone call from the president saying let him go. No, the president cannot pardon you. I’ll say it again. The president cannot pardon you.”
Then came the tough-guy flourish: “And yes, I will put you in handcuffs and I will put you in a courtroom and if necessary, I will put you in a jail cell.”
Welcome to Philadelphia—check your federal authority at the door.
Krasner didn’t stop at legal theory. He invoked the deadly Minneapolis incident—where an ICE agent shot a woman during an operation—as a warning shot to any agents thinking about stepping out of line. “If you decide to make the terrazzo floor of this airport anything like what you did in the streets of Minneapolis, which involved the criminal homicide of unarmed, innocent people, we are not having that here.”
That claim, by the way, is still fiercely disputed, with federal officials arguing the agent acted in self-defense and investigations ongoing.
But Krasner wasn’t in the mood for nuance.
In a twist that gave everyone whiplash, Krasner briefly pivoted to praise ICE agents who follow the law: “But let me go back to all ICE agents who are going to keep their oath, who are going to follow the law and uphold the Constitution of the United States, thank you for keeping your oath…”
And just when you thought the temperature might come down—boom, right back to the threats: “…to any agent who might think about doing it in an illegal way, I’ll be seeing you in court and you’re not going to like it.”
This isn’t exactly a one-off outburst. Krasner has been escalating his rhetoric for weeks, vowing to arrest and prosecute ICE agents who break local laws and even drawing outrage for inflammatory comparisons and rhetoric about federal officers.
What played out wasn’t just a press conference—it was a political spectacle.
Philly DA just THREATENED to arrest and prosecute ICE agents helping TSA at the airport:
