Ilhan Omar is brushing off Vice President JD Vance’s claim that the Justice Department is allegedly probing her over immigration and fraud issues, dismissing the entire controversy as political theater and taking a swipe at Republicans she says are chasing cable news airtime.
Walking the halls of Congress on Thursday, the Minnesota Democrat made it clear she wasn’t entertaining the accusation for even a second. “That is not something that is happening,” Omar said in a walk through Congress on Thursday. “That man is delusional.”
Omar insisted there is no shadow investigation, no hidden inquiry, and certainly no looming legal trouble tied to her background or conduct. In her telling, the whole thing is smoke, mirrors, and microphones. She doubled down, claiming investigators wouldn’t find anything even if they tried, saying they’re “absolutely not” going to find anything related to her ties to fraud schemes.
She also questioned whether any government resources were even being spent on the matter, brushing it off as pure political noise. “I don’t think they are using any resources,” she added. “They’re just saying stupid sh–.”
The congresswoman went further, flatly denying she had even been notified of any investigation or that she was under any formal scrutiny at all. Omar said she is not informed she is a subject of an investigation, saying “because there is nothing to investigate.”
And in her view, the entire narrative is manufactured for one reason: media attention. “There’s nobody looking into anything,” she said. “They’re just saying those things to get interviews with you guys. There’s nothing really happening.”
She continued her criticism, accusing Vance of making claims without action behind them, suggesting the allegations are more about headlines than law enforcement. “He hasn’t done anything. He hasn’t referred me to anybody. He’s just saying that so he can get TV interviews, because you guys will only talk to them if they say something about me.”
For now, Omar is betting the controversy fades as quickly as it surfaced. But with accusations flying at the highest levels of politics, and both sides digging in, it’s unlikely this latest Washington clash disappears quietly.
