‘I didn’t have any doubts’: Lindsay Clancy holdout juror breaks silence, disputes fellow jurors’ claims

by

BS BULLETIN:

  • Michael P. Desronvil, the lone holdout in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial, says he “didn’t have any doubts” about his position.
  • Desronvil disputes fellow jurors who claimed he acknowledged reasonable doubt but still refused to acquit Clancy by reason of insanity.
  • He says he believed the physical evidence, witnesses and prosecution’s case showed Clancy knew what she was doing and planned the killings.

The lone juror who prevented a verdict in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial is finally speaking for himself — and he’s pushing back hard on what his fellow jurors have said about him.

Michael P. Desronvil said he never expressed doubts about his belief that Clancy was criminally responsible for killing her three young children.

“I didn’t have any doubts,” Desronvil said in a statement provided to NewsNation. “As I tried to explain different possible theories during deliberation, I kept getting cut off as if I had doubts based on the evidence present.”

Desronvil said the evidence convinced him Clancy knew what she was doing.

“Based on all the physical evidence, key witnesses, and what the prosecution presents, I thought it was enough proof that she knew exactly what she was doing and planned,” he said.

That’s a dramatically different account of the deliberations from the one presented publicly by some of the other jurors.

The jury deadlocked 11-1, with Desronvil alone refusing to find Clancy not guilty by reason of insanity. The impasse ultimately resulted in a mistrial.

Afterward, other jurors publicly criticized the holdout.

Jury foreperson Roni Carlson told NBC10 Boston that Desronvil had admitted during deliberations that he had reasonable doubt. Another juror, Nick Dargie, previously said Desronvil could not point the panel to evidence or witness testimony supporting his position.

Desronvil now says those accounts mischaracterized what happened.

His statement is particularly significant because Clancy’s defense has seized on the other jurors’ descriptions of the deliberations while considering its post-mistrial legal strategy.

Defense attorney Kevin Reddington has said he plans to seek dismissal of the charges, arguing that the reported circumstances surrounding the deadlock raise legal issues.

Clancy admitted killing her three children — Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months — at the family’s Duxbury, Massachusetts, home in January 2023.

Her defense argued that severe mental illness rendered her not criminally responsible. Prosecutors maintained that evidence of planning and her actions surrounding the killings showed she understood what she was doing.

Desronvil was the only juror who ultimately agreed with the prosecution’s position.

Now, after days of other people describing what he supposedly thought inside the jury room, he’s saying something very different: He never had the doubts they said he did.

Clancy is scheduled to return to court Sept. 29 as prosecutors consider whether to retry the case.
