- A University of Michigan student shoved conservative activist Liz Benichou to the ground Sunday after a question about women’s freedom in Iran.
- During her arrest, the student allegedly screamed, “I should’ve f–king killed you when I had the f–king chance.”
- Campus police arrested and later released the student pending warrant authorization. Benichou says she injured her lower back.

A conservative activist went to the University of Michigan to talk about politics Sunday. She ended up on the ground, allegedly injured, while a furious student threatened to kill her in front of police.
And the entire confrontation was captured on video.
Liz Benichou, a Jewish conservative commentator and Trump supporter, was participating in a campus event organized by Liberty Under Fire USA when a female student approached a table displaying the question, “Is Islam Compatible with the West?”
Apparently, the question itself was enough to start an argument.
The student confronted the activists, accused them of being anti-Muslim and demanded to know whether they had permission to set up their table.
“This is f–king stupid, bro,” she shouted.
At one point, a male participant told a nearby campus police officer that the student had struck him. She denied it, even as people standing nearby insisted the confrontation had been recorded.
Then the student turned toward Benichou.
The conservative activist asked a question about the student’s appearance and the treatment of women in Iran.
“Am I wrong? If you walked around like this in Iran, what would happen to her?”
The student dropped her phone and shoved Benichou to the pavement with both hands. Video shows her attempting to kick the activist before a bystander intervened.
“Don’t f–king talk to me like that!” she screamed.
“You wanna f–king get over here, bitch?!”
The student then broke away from the man restraining her, removed her backpack and attempted to approach Benichou again.
A campus police officer intervened and forced her to the ground.
But the confrontation was far from over.

As officers attempted to handcuff the student, she continued shouting profanities. The New York Post reported that she acknowledged striking Benichou while arguing with police.
Then came the statement that transformed an already ugly campus confrontation into something even more disturbing.
As officers escorted her toward a police vehicle, the student reportedly screamed that she would attack Benichou again.
“I’d do it again every f–king time,” she shouted, before making an explicit death threat.
“I should’ve f–king killed you when I had the f–king chance.”
A stunned bystander asked whether she was serious.
“No, I’m not f–king kidding you,” the student responded.
The video also captured a bizarre exchange in which an onlooker told the student she needed psychiatric help. The student responded with another statement about killing Benichou.
All this over a campus political discussion.
And not just any discussion. The question concerned whether a woman dressed like the student would enjoy the same freedoms in Iran.
One might imagine that a debate about women’s rights would involve arguments about women’s rights. Instead, the exchange ended with a woman being knocked to the pavement.
University of Michigan police confirmed that officers responded to an event on campus shortly before 5 p.m. Sunday.
“As the group was packing up to leave, officers witnessed a University of Michigan student assault a woman not affiliated with the university,” police told the Daily Mail.
The student was taken into custody, processed and released pending warrant authorization.
Police reported no injuries. However, Benichou’s manager, Taylor Sharp, told Mediaite that the activist injured her lower back when she was thrown to the ground.
“The lady was crashing out and kept going at Liz,” Sharp said.
Sharp, who also serves as CEO of Liberty Under Fire USA, said Benichou intends to press charges.
The student had not been publicly identified, and authorities had not announced formal criminal charges as of Monday morning.
Benichou subsequently addressed the attack on social media.
“Political violence has NO place in the United States of America,” she wrote.
She thanked the responding officers and said she was receiving care in a safe location.
“If the intention was to intimidate or silence me, it will not work.”
There is also a political connection attracting attention.
Benichou identified her attacker as a supporter of Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed, who faces Republican Mike Rogers in Tuesday’s election.
Independent reporters circulating the video have made similar claims. The student’s political affiliation has not been independently confirmed, and no involvement by El-Sayed’s campaign has been reported.
The confrontation occurred on the same day that Democratic Rep. Haley Stevens endorsed Rogers over El-Sayed, igniting a separate political controversy over the Democratic nominee’s associations and the direction of his campaign.
Michigan’s Senate race has already produced arguments about antisemitism, religious extremism and political tolerance.
Sunday’s confrontation brought those arguments out of the campaign advertisements and onto a college campus.
A student confronted activists over their political message, physically attacked a woman after a question about Iran and allegedly threatened to kill her while police were taking her into custody.
The university now has an incident captured on video, an arrested student and an activist demanding accountability.
And prosecutors must decide what happens next.
