In a moment that feels more like a scene from a comic book than real life, a Florida man sprang into action in the early hours of Wednesday morning to stop a crime in progress—all while wearing Batman pajamas. The suspect? A repeat offender with a long history of run-ins with the law. The hero? A vigilant, no-nonsense citizen who wasn’t about to let crime slide in his neighborhood.

According to the Cape Coral Police Department, officers responded to a reported burglary in progress at a residence in the city. By the time they arrived, the situation was already under control—thanks to a sharp-eyed neighbor, Kyle Myvett, who had apprehended the suspect on his own.

Myvett, a former corrections officer, didn’t hesitate when his home security system alerted him to suspicious activity. Even though he was ready to call it a night, he took action the moment he saw someone rifling through his vehicle. Dressed in his now-iconic Batman pajamas, he headed outside to confront the intruder.

But the incident didn’t stop there. Myvett soon noticed the same suspect had moved on to a neighbor’s garage. Acting swiftly, he detained the man until authorities arrived.

“My training just kicked in,” Myvett told local media. “Without the person seeing me, I grabbed a hold of their shirt and right wrist and told him, ‘Listen, don’t try to get away, I have plenty of experience with this.’” He added, with a touch of humor, “I’m really glad I had my Batman pajamas on because that gave me the extra confidence I needed.”

The burglar, identified as Justin Schimpl, was no stranger to local law enforcement. Police stated that Schimpl had been involved in prior investigations and was well-known to authorities. During the incident, Schimpl allegedly made off with an assortment of high-value goods before being caught—including two pairs of Ray-Ban sunglasses valued at $300 each, cash, jewelry, and hundreds of dollars in gift cards.

Schimpl was taken into custody and is facing charges of burglary and petit theft.

Cape Coral Police were quick to acknowledge Myvett’s bravery and assistance in resolving the crime. In a statement released shortly after the arrest, the department wrote, “Thanks to a quick-thinking neighbor in his Batman pajamas, another burglary suspect was put behind bars.”
