BS BULLETIN:
- Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was caught on camera telling a colleague that she had tested positive for COVID-19.
- The conversation took place outside the Capitol, prompting immediate questions online about why she was there after testing positive.
- The disclosure comes amid a late-summer COVID uptick across much of the country.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez apparently has COVID — and the way the news got out feels like a dispatch from a very different era.
Reporter Pablo Manríquez posted Tuesday that Ocasio-Cortez had told a colleague on the House steps that she had COVID. Video of the exchange circulated Wednesday, showing the New York Democrat having the conversation outside the Capitol.
That quickly produced a second question online: If she knew she had COVID, why was she hanging around the Capitol?
Some commenters criticized Ocasio-Cortez for apparently being outside her home and questioned whether she was taking precautions around others. Others were more surprised that a positive COVID test was once again becoming political news in 2026.
There is some relevant context: COVID hasn’t disappeared.
The Association of American Medical Colleges reported earlier this month that the country is experiencing another late-summer increase. CDC data cited by the group showed infections growing in nearly every state in late August.
There was no indication in the initial reporting that Ocasio-Cortez was seriously ill, and the viral clip did not establish when she tested positive, when her symptoms began or what precautions she had taken.
It did establish one thing pretty clearly: Somehow, in September 2026, we are talking about AOC and COVID again.
