Jesse Watters watches Trump with Mamdani and asks: ‘Should we warn Melania?’

President Donald Trump’s increasingly friendly relationship with New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has reached the point where Jesse Watters has a question.

Does somebody need to tell Melania?

Things went slightly off the rails Tuesday on Fox News’ “The Five” as the panel debated the rise of democratic socialists and whether Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s association with the movement could hurt a future presidential campaign.

Jessica Tarlov offered a rather unexpected defense.

“The person who is the coziest with the DSA is Donald Trump,” Tarlov said.

Her evidence was Trump’s latest appearance with Mamdani in New York.

“I mean, the lovefest with Mamdani yesterday — the googly eyes are back,” Tarlov said, before mimicking Trump’s praise for the mayor: “‘You’re going to be a great mayor. You wanna come down to D.C.? We’ll talk again there. We’ll get you the money for Sunnyside Yard.’”

“He thinks Mamdani is a winner,” she added.

Watters initially pushed back on the political point. “So he shouldn’t help New York? Is that what you’re saying?” he asked.

Tarlov said that wasn’t her argument.

If Trump believes Mamdani can be successful and the two can find areas where they agree, she argued, Republicans can’t simultaneously portray democratic socialists as universally terrifying.

Watters countered that American presidents have worked with communists before. “We’ve done business with communists before, Jessica. With Stalin after World War II,” he said.

Then Tarlov took the conversation somewhere else. Trump, she said, “was like in love with” Mamdani. “He was looking at him like this,” Tarlov said, leaning toward Watters with a smile to demonstrate the look.

And that was all the invitation Watters needed.

“Like in a sexual way?” he asked. “Should we warn Melania?”

For the record, neither Watters nor Tarlov was seriously suggesting a romantic relationship between Trump and Mamdani. It was an on-air joke about the conspicuously warm relationship that has developed between two politicians who spent much of Mamdani’s rise attacking one another.

And there really has been a remarkable change in tone.

Trump met Mamdani at Gracie Mansion this week while in New York for the United Nations General Assembly, where the two discussed housing, affordability, public safety and plans involving Sunnyside Yard in Queens. Trump again praised Mamdani and said he wants him to succeed as mayor.

The relationship has been one of the stranger political developments of the past year.

Trump once attacked Mamdani as a “100% Communist Lunatic,” while Mamdani has repeatedly denounced Trump and his policies.

But since Mamdani became mayor, their face-to-face encounters have been noticeably warmer.

Trump said after their first Oval Office meeting that Mamdani could “do some things that are going to be really great,” and the president has repeatedly emphasized their shared interest in making New York more affordable.

Now they’re talking about federal cooperation on a major Queens development.

And apparently making Jessica Tarlov see googly eyes.
