Vice President Kamala Harris delivered a speech in Michigan that was panned for her delivery and a “cringe” moment that made the rounds on social media.
The Democrat presidential nominee was called out for slipping into a “fake accent” as she addressed teachers union members while speaking at a Detroit high school on Monday. Within hours of the remarks at the school, Harris was heard using similar wording while speaking to union workers in Pittsburgh – this time without any apparent accent.
The two moments were highlighted in a post by the Trump campaign on social media which noted, ” Let’s see if you can spot the difference…”

“You may not be a union member but you better thank a union member for the five-day work week. You better thank a union member for sick leave. You better thank a union member for paid leave. You better thank a union member for vacation time” Harris said while speaking in Detroit.
Comedian and podcast host Chad Prather spoke for many X users when he called out the moment, “This is SO CRINGE!”
“Kamala Harris has again brought out her FAKE accent…this time in Detroit, Michigan!” he wrote. “NO ONE IS BUYING IT!”
Back in July, Harris was mocked for using a fake Southern accent during a speech in Atlanta, Ga.

During Monday’s speech, she also repeated a familiar line from comments in 2023, saying, “We have dreams. We can see what is possible, unburdened by what has been.”
Comedian Terrence K. Williams accused Harris of “pretending to be black southern woman” by “using a fake accent.”
“She is mocking southern folks and pandering for votes,” he said in a post reacting to Monday’s speech.
“She changes fake accents like she changes policy positions and political personas,” Republican communications strategist Matt Whitlock wrote in response to a video montage by Steve Guest. “Today she’s talking in a fake southern accent, pretending to be a moderate. Next week she’ll be back to San Francisco liberal.”
“All of politics is a performance to Kamala Harris. She changes fake accents like she changes policy positions and political personas,” he noted.
Another moment during Monday’s speech that got plenty of attention on X was when Harris told a supporter in the crowd, “Let’s just get through the next sixty-four days. How about that?”
But her comment, followed by an air fist-bump, was delivered in another accent moment.

Social media users ripped into Harris for her “Sudden Onset Urban Accent Syndrome.”

I have lived in MI for 35 years and I can confirm no one talks like that.
Her accent is as fake as her candidacy.— G.S. ✝️ 🇺🇸 (@Giusy_Allegra69) September 2, 2024

Funny, I worked at a “Mom and Pop” auto parts store. They owned a store in two cities. We employees (9 counting the owners) got everything Harris said to thank a union member for- WITHOUT ANY UNIONS! And that meant no union fees padding the pockets of a bunch of lazy democrats.
