The official TikTok account of the White House under Donald Trump posted a patriotic video set to Taylor Swift’s hit “The Fate of Ophelia,” from her blockbuster album The Life of a Showgirl. The catch? The song was used to sound-track a Trump-celebratory montage, with captions reading “the fate of America.”
Fans of Swift — the so-called “Swifties” — were not amused. Considering her public history of criticism and distance from Trump and his political circle, the post looks less like an olive branch and more like a trolling opportunity. Many are now urging Swift to sue whoever authorized the use of her music.
“TAYLOR SWIFT SUE THEM FOR USING YOUR SONG!” one posted. “Taylor SUE THEM,” said another. “I would absolutely LOVE if Tay found a way to sue them for this.”
Trump once declared “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!” publicly, so the video ties Swift’s lyrics to a montage of Trump’s political moments — including his 2023 mug shot, is not going to sit well with her fans.
Swift and her team could send a cease-and-desist or pursue legal remedy.
