BS BULLETIN:
- Sitcom producer Chuck Lorre used an acceptance speech at a Los Angeles charity gala to attack President Trump, Melania Trump and RFK Jr.
- Lorre called Trump a “Russian asset” and mocked the first lady in unusually personal terms.
- The White House responded by accusing Lorre of suffering from “Trump Derangement Syndrome” and saying he should seek “psychiatric help.”
Chuck Lorre went to a charity gala to accept an award.
He left having turned the evening into a full-scale political broadside against President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump.
The creator of The Big Bang Theory, Two and a Half Men, and Mom was honored Sept. 26 at the Project Angel Food Angel Awards in Los Angeles after his foundation made what the charity has described as a major contribution to its work providing medically tailored meals to seriously ill people.
Lorre began by acknowledging that the event was supposed to be about the charity. Then he went somewhere else entirely. He joked about turning on CNN each morning to see whether Trump had suffered a fatal heart attack, attacked Melania Trump in highly personal terms, and later called the president a “Russian asset.”
At a recent charity event, @CBS‘s “Sitcom King” @ChuckLorre1 joked about wishing death on @POTUS every morning he wakes up, called @FLOTUS a “Yugoslavian escort” who hates her husband, and proudly mocked @RobertKennedyJr‘s neurological speech disorder. pic.twitter.com/ck4V6AGTt5

Lorre also went after Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and criticized Democrats from the opposite direction, urging the party to “run from” what he described as far-left woke politics.
The White House did not exactly respond with a carefully lawyered press statement.
Spokesman Davis Ingle told Fox News Digital that Lorre should seek “psychiatric help” for what he called “Trump Derangement Syndrome,” adding that it had “completely rotted his peanut-sized brain.”
That response came after Lorre’s remarks drew attention not only for their political content, but for where he delivered them. The Project Angel Food event was designed to raise money for an organization that provides meals to people dealing with serious illness. Lorre himself acknowledged the tension in his speech, saying he would have preferred to focus on thanking the people who do that work but felt compelled, as a comedy writer, to go political instead.
Critics of the speech argued that the event had become another example of entertainment figures turning nonpolitical stages into partisan platforms.
Supporters of Lorre, meanwhile, have pointed out that political commentary has long been part of his public persona. He has previously used the vanity cards at the end of his television shows to comment on Trump and electoral politics.
But this time, the White House decided to answer in kind. And with language that probably would not make it past CBS Standards and Practices.
MY QUICK TAKE
There was a time when Hollywood’s political speeches at least came with an orchestra trying to play the speaker offstage.
Now the political speech is the show.
Lorre has every right to say whatever he wants. That’s America. But there is also something very revealing about a charity event for sick people turning into a presidential roast because a wealthy television producer simply cannot resist telling the room what he thinks of Donald Trump.
Rush used to point out that liberals in entertainment rarely see themselves as political activists when they do this. They think they are just stating the obvious. That distinction explains a lot.
And the White House response?
Let’s just say nobody over there called a focus group. Hollywood brought the monologue. The White House brought the heckler from the back row.
