California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) scrambled to release his own AI-generated hit pieces after President Donald Trump shared a few satirical deepfakes lampooning Democratic leadership.
It all kicked off Monday night when Trump posted a deepfake video featuring House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) donning a sombrero and handlebar mustache, a visual jab clearly mocking Democrats’ relentless pandering to identity politics. The video also included an exaggerated (but on-the-nose) portrayal of Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) lamenting that the Democratic Party is running out of voters “because of our woke, trans bullsh*t.” The deepfake Schumer added, “If we give all these illegal aliens free healthcare, we might be able to get ’em on our side so they can vote for us.”
Naturally, the left couldn’t take the joke—or the truth—so Newsom leapt into damage control. Rather than defend his party’s platform, he opted to go low-budget AI too, aiming his clips at Vice President JD Vance.
Newsom’s first attempt? An AI-generated mockumentary about furniture. In a bizarre and boring clip styled like a parody of a History Channel special, a deepfake version of Vance waxes poetic about the Chesterfield couch—yes, seriously.
“Hello and welcome to my show, A History of Couches,” begins the AI Vance voice. “I’m your host, JD Vance… Some artifacts shape nations, others shape desires, few shape both. The Chesterfield Couch is one of them…”
The nearly minute-long clip goes on with a rambling ode to the antique sofa, attributing it to the fourth Earl of Chesterfield and suggesting, tongue-in-cheek, that Vance may have had a “special encounter” with one. Newsom’s office captioned it:
“POOR JD! HIS SWEET BELOVED COUCH NOW COSTS MORE WITH THE TARIFFS!”
But Newsom wasn’t done. On Wednesday, his office followed up with another AI hit, this time based on an old college photo of JD Vance in drag—an image from his younger years that the left hopes will do what their policies can’t: discredit him. The accompanying caption?
“WOW! JD, SUCH AN ODD GUY!”
At least Trump’s fun comes in between tireless hours of work and action, while Newsom is watching his state crumble. No talk of the homeless, the border crisis, or global instability. Just AI skits about couches and decades-old photos.
Meanwhile, Trump continues to dominate the narrative—punching back at the radical left’s hypocrisy with satire that lands closer to reality than the Democrats might like.
Copying Trump’s trolling techniques may seem like a plan, but they better get better at it if they want to stop looking like clowns.
